Until 1840, most people in England lived in rural parishes. The parish was the basic political, administrative and economic unit until 1885.

The author, Roger Howgate, set out to record the oral traditions of the parish and he discovered that traditional views of English history did not fit with Kimble’s history.

Here was a community involved in major national events, dynamic and complex.
